Ideal vs. real
It is easiest to relate, trust, and be intimate with someone whose ideal self is very near to their real self. I find that most people I clash with these days are people who have presented themselves in a certain light but then have shown over time that isn't who they really are. I also find that the people I most drawn to and loyal to are the people who have shown themselves and continued to be that person. Change is inevitable and necessary... and I don't expect perfection from anyone. Everyone falls from grace occasionally, but there is a big difference between making mistakes and growing from them, and just misrepresenting yourself as a person.
The ideal vs. the real is sometimes hard to make distinctions between but time is a friend to the truth.
