Sans makeup

A person from my past once said, "ever since tanning and plastic surgery there is no excuse for a girl accepting herself the way she is."

I realize now how strong her insecurities must have been to have held stock in such a saying. But I have to believe it must have been difficult for her to wear a mask all the time; hair done, makeup done, the right outfit every time. If you can't even accept yourself the way you are, wouldn't you constantly live in fear that someone might see the real you?

Maybe I am more polished when I am all done up, but I don't think my beauty is defined by the things I use to hide myself. Sans makeup, I think I am just fine.

And that is truly beautiful.
